What is BWIC?

BWIC stands for Black Women Instructional Coaches. It is a term that names the leadership, influence, and impact Black women bring to instructional coaching roles.

Listen to Leading from the Middle

Why it Matters?

Instructional coaches play a critical role in improving teaching and learning, yet their work is often misunderstood or underutilized. My research highlights how these challenges manifest, particularly for Black women in these roles, offering insights that strengthen coaching systems overall.

BWIC is grounded in my research, my experience, and the stories of Black women leading from the middle. It is both a way to name this work and to build a greater understanding of the role of instructional coaches. BWIC provides language for that experience.
