When I attended a screening of The Right to Read last June, I didn’t just watch. I felt a responsibility to share. As an educator, the documentary’s message struck me deeply. I also thought about the parents, educators, and community members who might never see it but needed to.

That’s where the idea began.

I partnered with a local nonprofit to host a parent workshop where I led a session on how to support emerging readers and build literacy at home. Parents left feeling encouraged and equipped to better advocate for their children’s reading journeys.

Soon after, I hosted a community screening of The Right to Read for educators and local leaders. The group was small, but the impact was lasting. The conversations that followed reminded me of the power of shared learning and the need for spaces like this in every community.

I look forward to offering more workshops and screenings in the future and continuing this important conversation about literacy and equity.
